Stephanie & Nick | Sunset Cliffs Intimate Wedding

It’s a little strange to be writing this blog post tonight because it’s not just any wedding I’m blogging about but my own sister’s! (No pressure…) This Fall I had the incredible opportunity to not only be my sister’s maid of honor but also her wedding photographer! It was such a fun experience and I only wish I had more sister’s so I could do it again!

Steph & Nick had the most beautiful destination wedding in San Diego at Sunset Cliffs. These cliffs deserve every bit of their name as the sunsets are truly remarkable here and the evening of their wedding was no exception. Their families stood around them as they said their vows with the ocean crashing below and the setting sun painting the sky.

As I sit and reflect back I wish I could accurately describe the warmth and love that was with us on that cliff…with such an intimate group you all share in the laughs and tears of the ceremony. I think I can speak for everyone that our favorite part of the ceremony was when Steph surprised Nick with a sweet reading that brought him to tears. He wasn’t alone, I know there were many of us that were watching, eyes blurred with tears.
Following the ceremony we had dinner and drinks under the market lights at Stone Brewery. In keeping with the relaxed feel of the weekend, a brewery seemed quite fitting to celebrate the new Mr & Mrs Fischer.

This past weekend we had our family Christmas, the first one since Nick officially became part of the family. At one point I remember thinking that I couldn’t imagine our family now without Nick in it. It might have been while my husband tried to unwrap his gift from Nick that was surrounded in duct tape or when Nick shared his glass of whiskey with me. All I know is, I’m so happy that he’s officially stuck with us :)

HUGE shout out to the AMAZING Melissa McClure that helped me photograph! She was truly a God send and I don’t know what we would have done without her! Thank you!!

I was feeling a little left out of the getting ready photos, so I improvised 😉

The arch. The one thing that caused the most amount of stress yet turned into a favorite memory from the wedding. My husband Alex built the arch, but we all failed to figured out how said arch was actually going to get to the ceremony site. It was less than 30 minutes before the ceremony when we spotted the best man Joe and Alex coming down the hill with the arch! Everyone burst into action attaching the flowers, securing the draping and laying the stones to form the aisle. Just like that, we had ourselves a wedding. If you think it sounds like it was chaos, it kind of was, but that’s what was so fun! It was perfectly imperfect and it was so fun to see everyone pitching it to create the ceremony site.

My sister, a blogger, previously blogged about her wedding. She tells this part of the story best..

“This past summer, I’d come across a reading [“I Like You” by Sandol Stoddard Warburg] that was so perfect for Nick and our relationship. I knew I had to include it in our ceremony so I had asked the pastor to let me squeeze it. But I didn’t tell Nick I was doing this and this part wasn’t listed in the programs everyone was holding.

Just as other parts of the day and weekend went differently than I’d envisioned, I could never have predicted Nick’s response to my reading. It was better than I could have ever imagined.

I made my groom cry.”
